It's gettin hot in here

This has nothin to do with Nelly, although, the lyrics are apt to describe the upcoming season for one Tony Romo.

The rumors have been flowing that Romo was gettin tired of the T.O.-influenced distractions. Now, T.O. is in up-state NY, so that removes Romo's biggest problem.

Romo better come out smokin next season. What excuse will he have to fall back on, that Wade was too much of a player's coach? That Yoko Romo's fluctuating weight gain messed him up on the field? That T.O. being in Buffalo in a completely different conference and division was too much for him to have to deal with in Dallas?

Honestly, Tony it's put up or shut up. If the Cowboys playoff futility continues another season, the blame should rest solely on the shoulders of Romo. Not Phillips. Not Jones...well..maybe. Not Simpson. Not Witten. Not Garrett.

NFL Fanhouse got it perfectly, Tony Romo meet the NFL's 2009 hot seat.

It just feels so good

The Jayhawks have claimed another regular season Big XII title, via an assist from Texas A&M.  That good readers is 5 in a row.  Maybe they should rename the title the Jayhawk trophy.
Texas is 0-9 at the Fieldhouse, but they usually play Kansas pretty tough and this game was no exception.

Kansas and Texas have had some memorable games in recent years, most of those tight, high-scoring shootouts with high stakes.

This one was no different.

Trading shots like it was a game of H-O-R-S-E, the Jayhawks and Longhorns combined to shoot 15-of-28 over the first 10 minutes, changing leads eight times.

Stank-0 is trying to rank the titles, and this one is up there because this was supposed to be a rebuilding year.  Even Stank-0 doubted the Hawks.  The best title has to be when KU went 16-0 in the Big XII.  That was a magical ride.

Now we want OU.  Bring on B Griff.  KU needs to face OU for the tournament title.  ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK KUUUU!

Where's our cut?

Terrell Owens Mark J. Rebilas/US Presswire

As you can see this is about none other than Terrell Owens. The Buffalo Bills have signed T.O. Obviously, Rosenhaus wasn't bullplayin about him having teams interested in him. What Drew doesn't understand is that he was signed with bloggers' help. On behalf of the bloggin community, The Stankoniforous Files team will accept on their behalf and disperse with discretion.

The Bills' offense definitely needs the help.

The Bills were in need of a receiver to take the pressure off Lee Evans. They got one of the biggest names out there.

The question now is how T.O. will deal with Trent Edwards, who is entering only his second full year as starter. Owens has made life difficult for quarterbacks in the past and joins an offense that struggled mightily last year. The Bills were 25th in the NFL in yards gained and failed to have a 300-yard passing game. The offense has been a perennial problem. It has ranked 25th or lower in each of the past six seasons.

Can T.O. end the Bills playoff drought? Will Trent Edwards step his game up?

There were obvious ulterior motives for the Bills signin T.O. It has been an open secret that the Bills are strugglin financially. They were in enough of a financial bind that a move to Canada has been seriously considered. The drama and excitement that T.O. will bring to Buffalo may stave off that move to Canada. Good move.

T.O. tribute

The NFL Network decided to do a top 10 T.O. moments.  We here at The Stankoniforous Files will post some T.O. vids as well.

TO - The star incident

Stank-0's favorite T.O. moment, when he clowned the Cowboy's star in TX stadium!

Terrell Owens Mocking Ray Lewis

No one is immune even Ray Ray.  This was after he signed with the Ravens then decided he didn't want to play for them, and got himself dealt to Philly.

Terrell Owens Top 5 Touchdown Celebrations

People take pro football so serious that they forget that their main job is to entertain us.  Outside of Ocho Cinco, TO has the most entertaining TD celebrations.

What part of TO history did we miss?

A bit unfair

The Stankoniforous Files will weigh in on the T.O. situation. Not him being cut, that has been examined and re-examined.

Instead, T.O.'s treatment is a bit unfair. He has never been arrested on cocaine charges. (*We're looking at you, Matt Jones*) He has never been suspended by the NFL for steriod use (*Shawn Merriman*), been suspended by the league. Period.

Yet ESPN especially (*Ed Werder, talkin to you*) has treated T.O. like he is the end of Western civilization. Yes, T.O. wants to win so badly that he can be a uber-@sshole. If Stank-0 is wrong, then post footage of T.O. not talkin in the context of a game. Yet, there are other players who flip out and they are mentioned as examples of how much they want to win. (*Jay Cutler has been known to get in the face of teammates. *) Uh....really?

Yes, the method may be wrong, but the message is spot on. Jeff Garcia did not turn into a proven winner until Philly. McNabb didn't seem to bring his A game to the Super Bowl. Tony Romo seems to revel in the spotlight of being an superstar NFL quarterback, but nothing else. So throwing these QBs under the boss hasn't been exactly wrong.

The locker room problems seem to be a consequence of him calling out player's willingness to bring their game. Or them throwing him the damn ball. (*Keyshawn Johnson, noted author*) On this point, #1 receivers have much in common with T.O. Jerry Rice, Chris Carter, Randy Moss, Torry Holt, Issac Bruce, and Marvin Harrison have all made statements about wanting the ball in their hands. It's like we are baggin on T.O. for the very thing we expect in receivers. If he didn't want the ball we would question his cojones, but he wants the ball so we call him selfish.

T.O. is clearly in the downward slope of his career, he is 35. It is inevitable. He has kept his body in phenomenal condition so he still have miles on him. He may not be #1 material but he can be a capable #2.

Banged on!

Wait...there's more

T.J. Houshmandzadeh chose....Seattle? Hassleback over AD aka Purple Jesus!? Really? Is Stank-0 missing something. It's got to be because of his fam out on the West Coast. It's not like the C-Hawks were scaring anyone last year. Not one to rain on someone's parade, Stank-0 hopes that Housh likes it.
----------------------

It makes sense that after you broke the back for a defensive tackle, that anyone not willing to get down gets shipped out. Case in point, Jason Taylor. He refused to redo his deal so the Skins decided to give him walkin papers. Now, Taylor didn't exactly wow anyone last year because he was injured for part of the season. Who signs him now? Good luck and Godspeed, J.
---------------------------------------------

The Giants decided that the Hammer aka Brandon Jacobs is all they need. So Derrick Ward became expendable then he went and signed with the Bucs for 4 years, $17M.

The Bucs are putting together an offense. The only question mark is the signal caller. The GMen may have just worn out the Hammer for the season. He tenderizes the defense and then the fast backs come in and hit the edges when everyone is tired of being battered by Jacobs.

Also, if they don't get Plax back, teams can put 8 or 9 in the box and deal with Jacobs. No other Giants wideout puts fear in a defense's heart. Not a smart move.

Where to from here?

The NFL hasn't had a new offensive or defensive scheme in quite some time.  Every team runs some variation of the West Coast offense.  The St. Louis Rams have hybridized it the best, to the tune of a Super Bowl closing in on a dime ago.  It's like they essentially took the college spread offense and made it suitable for the NFL.

The 2007 New England Patriots essentially perfected what the Rams created in 1999.

As for defenses, the latest creation was from Buddy Ryan, creator of the 46.

Four six uses four linemen, 3 linebackers and 4 defensive backs.  (This looks alot like the 4-3.)

Most defenses utilize a variation of the 3-4 and 4-3.  The three four is a variation of the Oklahoma/50 defense, which had 5 linemen and 2 linebackers.

The four three is 4 linemen and 3 linebackers.  It was first used coaches like Tom Landry.

It has long passed time for new offenses and defenses in the NFL.

It may be slowly be happening in terms of the tight ends starting to resemble wide receivers and being lined up in the slot.

On the defensive side, the linebackers and safeties are multi-positional as well.

Could A-11 be used sparingly a la Wildcat in the NFL?

The Culter plot thickens

Jay Cutler is still very very upset about potentially being dealt by the Broncos.

Stank-0 rarely posts an entire article but will make an exception here.

Jay Cutler is not interested in chatting with the Denver Broncos right now. And the division between the team and their quarterback has spread even further.

ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports Cutler will not sit down with Denver coach Josh McDaniels and the Broncos brass.

Cutler told Mortensen his biggest problem is the Broncos denying they discussed a trade involving Matt Cassel.

Cutler is staying away from the team even though he was previously planning to return to Denver this week and study the new playbook with McDaniels.

This is definitely a developing situation. Denver will do one of two things to solve this gigantic problem: It will either trade Cutler or mend the situation.

The fact the team has reached out to Cutler indicates the team is trying to mend fences. Cutler would rather be traded. This could take time but Denver has to keep trying to fix the problem.

After reading Cutler's words, the team's next step may be to level with him. Cutler is clearly looking for the truth and he doesn't believe what he is hearing it from the team.

Life just got interesting in the Mile High City for the new coach.

People who made February

Let's take a look back at the playmakers and headliners of the month of February

Of course, two football players: Santonio Holmes and Larry Fitzgerald for their play in the playoffs and the Super Bowl.

Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams for their dominating performances in the Australian Open.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization for cutting good players...and signing some good players. Ditto for KC.

The Big Fundamental/Aristotle/Shaqtus/Shaqawockee whatever you want to call him for being the People's MVP of the All Star Game.

Also Kobe and LeBron for the MSG show they each put on.

Of course, Alex Rodriguez for the media s**tstorm he created. Thanks! I really love watchin ESPN tell us about every mundane thing you do in your day from now until the end of the baseball season. Appreciate it!

Michael Vick for gettin to go back to VA. Keep trainin and you'll get another shot.

Jim Boeheim and Jim Calhoun for reaching college basketball coaching milestones.

Oddly enough Blake Griffin for showing us through his absence just how crucial he is to OU's tourney chances.
