The hype surrounding this game was stratospheric. Unfortunately the commentators and casual fans are already sounding the death knell. There are 82 games and this was just the first one. Let's get to what we learned.
- LBJ is still a force to be reckoned with. Whether or not you agreed with Lebronapalooza, the man can still ball. [ll]
- D3 will need about 2-3 weeks to get his basketball legs back. He's probably at about 85-90% which is still top 10 but he just didn't have that extra that we know him to have.
- The Celtics have a plethora of bigs and bodies to throw at anyone. If they don't make it to the Finals, it'll be their own fault.
- The Heat don't have a legitimate big, and that might be a problem later in the season.
- The Heat need their shooters to get healthy. Mike Miller would have knocked down some of those open looks.
- The Heat still need to figure out their rotation. They are still figuring out who can play with whom.
While I may not calling another man Baby (just sorta a personal thing) Glen "Big Baby" Davis made me a fan when he was a LSU eating all the Chicken and the HogMAWLS (Thanks Friday!!!!) He also was a huge deal in the SEC and helped to make the LSU team matter when Florida routinely killed all the competition in conference.
Well yesterday he made the shot, and the push heard round the internet....... world. I must say that Big Baby has grown on me more as a Celtic than I thought he would. As a role player last year he hugged the bench pretty tight. This year with the loss of KG and Leon Powe he has really stepped up.
So save for his hair experiments this year (GROWN MEN DONT WEAR MOWHAWKS.... well maybe Ron Artest does, but the only 2 guys that I can remember in the NBA with numbers that high 96 for Artest and 99 for Dennis Rodman; Nuff Said) I am glad he has gotten better and can contribute. I guess its because I myself am a big guy and have a love for basketball, football and lacrosse. So looking at BBD, reminds me of Oliver Miller, Natrone Means, and Christian Okoe.....
So here is to you BIG BABY!!!! and I hope you dont get fined or suspended for the push on the kid...
I wrote about Marbury joining the Celtics in January. Well, the Knicks finally cut him loose and he is set to join the Celtics.

This is the dumbest move the Celtics could possibly make. Hopeful of signing him? What in the wide world of sports is goin on? A declining point guard who shoots first goin to the champion Celtics?Several teams that could use Marbury have passed so why should the Celtics take him? It might be cheap but Marbury isn't exactly a safe bet. He hasn't been a sure thing since he was drafted in 96. He has gotten himself dealt from two teams.
What are your thought, readers? Should the Celtics take him.
My thoughts haven't changed at all. The Lakers are that much better after goin through the Finals last year. Couple that with this being an odd year, so that makes the Spurs a very strong candidate to win the title. Which means next year, we can cross the Spurs off the list of title contenders.
So why add a combustible aging point guard to a very good mix? Honestly, I feel like Starbury peaked in PHX or NJ. It's been slowly downhill since then. Sure, he will be onboard because he wants a ring, but how long will the long-term goal take a backseat to playing time or shots?
The question that Ainge needs to ask is, does this make the Celtics substantially better? In my opinion, the answer is no. Let some other team deal with Hurricane Marbury.

There are reports surfacing that Starbury will be joining the Celtics.
That still depends largely on Marbury's ability to negotiate his release from the Knicks after weeks of fruitless and oft-contentious buyout talks, but sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com this week that Boston is Marbury's preferred destination if he manages to become a free agent and that the Celtics are indeed hopeful of signing him.
Celtics general manager Danny Ainge did not immediately respond to a request for comment on a New Year's Day holiday for the entire league and has generally refused to address the possibility of signing Marbury. Yet it's believed that the Celtics' concerns about their depth, after losing James Posey and P.J. Brown from last season's title team, have swelled noticeably since they followed up the best 29-game start in NBA history at 27-2 by losing three of the next four games on the road.
