The long goodbye

To those of you whom are not NBA watchers, legendary guard Allen Iverson's last team is the Memphis Grizzlies. They are bad. Not just bad but turrible. Where am I going you ask?

The latest news out of the Grizzlies camp is that AI has had enough. He is taking some personal leave and goin to ATL, where he rests his head in the offseason.

AI's decline has been lamented before. AI might have been the single most important cultural force in the NBA this generation. Iverson's bona fides are not in question here. His pride, stubbornness, etc is though.

Iverson isn't the only one to blame here either. I think the Grizz tried to bait-and-switch with Iverson. I think they thought they could get Iverson to come off the bench once he signed with them. AI has made his feelings about being a bench player well known. Would you go be a bench player for the Grizz or the Lakers, Celtics, Cavs, or Magic? Exactly.
It just hurts to see his career slowly decline when it didn't have to be this way.
AI still have quality ball left in him. If the Grizz are gonna screw around with him, then send him somewhere where he could be a vital cog in the machine.

Wanna get away?

[Disclaimer:  This is a Stank N Werds joint.  Enjoy.]

Stank-0:
After Roy Williams' boneheaded comments, he has to want a little vacation.  In a place far far away. (No Star Wars) Think about it.  The Cowboys are doing well and here he go poppin his mouth off about something we already could see.  Roy is not T.O. and Stank-0 will let my esteemed colleague break down exactly why Roy is not T.O.

Werds:
See it is quite simple.  Roy is not a gamebreaking wide out.  You get Williams in the huddle and he tell the other guys, "Just block long enough for him to throw me the ball.  I got it from there."  That is not a Roy Williams type of statement.

He wasn't that type of receiver at Texas, never was.  The problem came with the trade.  The Cowboys gave up alot to get him and expected alot from him.  [Stank-0's note:  They took the wrong guy!  Stank-0 will scream it from the rooftops til ya'll hear me!]

Roy is not a homerun wide out in the mold of T.O. or Randy Moss.  No, he's in the mold of Keyshawn Johnson, a big third-down, move-the-chains-type of guy.  Well, normally teams don't give up multiple picks for a third down receiver, but this the Dallas Cowboys we are talkin about, and nothing is "normal" in Dallas during football season.  Back to Stank-0.

Stank-0:
Now Stank-0 thinks the Cowboys might have been hoodwinked by his "production" in Detroit.  There's a reason for that and his name is Calvin Johnson.  That is the superfreak receiver the Cowboys should have gone after.  Teams have to and still have to put some help on Calvin's side of the field.  That had to have freed up Williams a little bit.  He is big (somewhere north of 6'2"), with ridiculous speed and vertical.  That's the type homerun hitter the Cowboys desperately needed.  That's being to diplomatic, that is the receiver the Cowboys should have dealt for, Calvin Johnson.  He's a freak of nature.

Maybe they were blinded.  Maybe they were gullible.  Whatever the reason, now they have a #2 or #3 receiver that they gave #1 type draft picks for.  It's a no-win situation.  Stank-0 will hand off to Werds for the final thought.

Werds:
The real problem is that Roy will be endlessly compared to one of the best WRs in NFL history as long as he wears a Cowboys jersey. That's the tragedy.  I think he could have played out his career in Detroit as a good player on a bad team.  Now he is starting to be labeled a bad player on a good team.

Are Stank N Werds off about Roy?  Did you like the tandem?

Like we didn't know that ROY

I couldn't believe what I was reading but yes it happened. It was in black and white for me to lay eyes on and I must say, all I could do was laugh. Roy Williams (you know the third best receiver on the Cowboys) yea, you all know him. Is disgruntle that Miles Austin is out shining him. I took the liberty of gathering some of Roy's quotes so please...enjoy.

"It's just not even close," Williams said. "It's not even funny. Not even close. . . . I'm the No. 1 receiver. But things are just going No. 2's way. He gets the ball thrown correctly his way," Williams said. "I'm stretching and falling and doing everything. Everybody who's been here's balls are there. Our footballs are everywhere right now."

So basically he's hating on Austin and blaming Romo for his lack of production. When asked to clarify the quote Roy turned the cheek and Romo downplayed the whole thing (as usual).  Roy did however attempt to be the clean up crew for his own words when people started comparing him to Terrel Owens which is absolutely Hilarious to me. He said, get this...

"I'm not a T.O.," Williams said. "I'm not trying to be a T.O. I don't know why people are trying to put me in that category."

Uh? Roy? Please tell us something we DON'T know. Seriously though, for all of his attitude and shenanigans T.O. is in the category with some of the best to ever play WR in the NFL. You, however are...and while I sit here and try to think of a comparison, I can't even think of one. You suck. okay? That's it. I think Tony Kornheiser said it best on PTI two days ago when he said Roy we know you aren't T.O. you haven't strung together 8 game efforts to match some of the 1 game efforts Terrell Owens has had. I am dying right now just thinking about this farce! LOL! I mean, Look at the comments section here .

Stank-0 DOES NOT have a crystal ball

It just looks like at times.  Take the just-finished World Series.  This is what Stank-0 said before it started.

So dear readers, who you got and in how many games. Right here and now, 6 games...NEW YORK YANKEES!

Yup, you guessed it.  Stank-0 had it right on the money.  *Going to play his numbers*

Since the Yankees won, there has been unprecedented hate like it was Obama or something like they didn't win it straight up.  Stank-0 is a mild Yankees hater, very mild, but MLB needed the Yankees to win.

Think about it.  People were actually talkin about the World Series in the midst of the NFL season, die hard fans notwithstanding.  That doesn't happen often.  The Bronx Bombers being there was the main reason, the other being can the Phillies repeat?

Sure we can hate on the Yankees for outspending everyone in baseball, but that's the system they are operating in.  If they change the rules (unlikely) then things will be different.

Honestly, for most of America, baseball season is a fill-in until the NFL starts back up.  My NFL season is effectively over so...the World Series was a good distraction from the horror of watching the 2009-2010 Chiefs play football.

In any case, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION YANKEES!

PS.  Again they ain't even won good and they gettin pimped, pic courtesy of Eastbay.

[Editor's note: This post from M0yo is a tad dated. A few thoughts on LJ's Twitter habits, and the Redskins. Enjoy.]

"What the HELL is going on out there?"

First, Larry Johnson...really? Do we even need to say much about this? Is he mad about losing or his looks? "Still richer than u," Johnson wrote. "Keep goin. Come play our game oopps forgot you can't . . . . Make me regret it. Lmao. U don't stop my checks. Lmao. So 'tweet' away."

I wonder if he realizes the reason he makes those fat checks is because of the audience that he so graciously adores. That being said...who cares? He's been a head case since the jump and STILL hasn't taken the diapers off. It's a shame to see such a talent never amount to much because he can't grasp the team concept.

Second, Who put Duct tape on T.O.'s mouth this year? He had pretty good guys throwing him the ball but it wasn't enough. I'm betting that he'll want out 5 minutes after the last game and we will all hear about it.

Third, Snider you need to hire me so I can consult you with this Redskin team.
Step 1, FIRE COACHING STAFF AND YOURSELF. SELL THE TEAM. Yes, the skins need new blood, atmosphere, and culture.(insert new owner)
Step 2, FIRE the GM.
Step 3. TRADE, Campbell, Moss, Randle El, Portis, Sellers and the entire O-LINE. Get whatever you can for them. preferably draft picks. [Editor's note:  A Florida Marlins-esque fire sale?  That's harsh.]
Step 4, Hire a proven, seasoned talent evaluator for a GM.
Step 5, Hire a gritty young coach with some fire in the mold of Coach Tomlin of Pittsburgh.
Step 6, FORGET the free agent market exists. You will earn a top 5 pick this year go with a QB then a RB. DRAFT DRAFT and then DRAFT some more. Keep your young guys together. Let them go through their growing pains but by all accounts keep the core together. This is most important for an O-line. Then explore free agency for solid role players.

[I also what to put on blast the censorship happening in Redskins stadium as well, no signs? WOW...apparently card board signs put fans in danger. It was later released that snider didn't like messages on the signs being directed at him as they were in bad taste.]
