Anything the Broncos don't like is a good day in KC

Not only did the Chiefs acquire Cassel but Jay Cutler was dangled in a deal trying to acquire Cassel in Denver. Then he found out about the Broncos trying to deal him and he wants out.

It's like the Chiefs have already won the Super Bowl! Today can't get any better. Now the franchise quarterback wants to play elsewhere. God is good all the time! All the time God is good! :D

The particulars that got Cutler's draws in a bunch.

There’s another part of the trade of Pats QB Matt Cassel that is now coming out that has one Pro Bowl AFC quarterback right out peeved off at his team. That QB is Broncos thrower Jay Cutler, who was almost part of a mega three-way deal that would have sent him to Tampa Bay with Cassel ending up playing for his old offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in Denver.

Ha ha! Now before us Chiefs' fans read too much into this. The Broncos might do what they can to make him feel better.

He's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

B Griff is back and diving over announcer's tables he's so happy to be back.

Some examples:
He went airborne sideways to chase down that loose ball, flying over the scorer's table near the Red Raiders' bench to try to shovel the ball back into play.

He was unsuccessful, but bounced up a couple of seconds later to a round of applause from Texas Tech fans.

Now the Big XII tourney gets very interesting. KU vs. OU for the title! BEWARE THE PHOG!

Matt Cassel

Big Big BIG BIG UPS to GM Pioli. Never in Stank-0's wildest dreams did he think the Chiefs would get Matt Cassel. Pioli has made Stank-0 a believer, Cassel is the new starting quarterback for the Chiefs!!!!

Stank-0 expected Pioli to take about 2-3 seasons to start putting some offense on the field. The GM's timetable must be a bit faster. That means that the playmakers will have to be at the OTAs on GP, *lookin at Dwayne Bowe*

After putting the franchise tag on Matt Cassel as insurance for their two-time Super Bowl MVP, the Patriots shipped Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel to Kansas City on Saturday. The Chiefs gave up shockingly little -- the 34th overall pick in the April draft for both players.

Honestly, Pioli got Executive of the Year on lock and the season hasn't even started yet! BALLIN!

Stank-0 also wonders how this will effect TGon's decision to leave KC.

That alone won't do it, but it's a step in the right direction. A veteran linebacker and an up and coming quarterback, in a weak AFC West. Combine that with the fact that Tomlinson is declining and Cutler is on the trading block. The Chiefs could steal the AFC West with a plastic gun right now.

It will eventually make sense

Tampa cutting all those vets was for a reason. The Bucs have dealt for K2 aka Kellen Winslow Jr.

If K2 can be the soldier he was during his break out season, the Bucs have the makings of some serious offense. Antonio Bryant and K2. The only question mark is the quarterback.
-----------------------------

In other news, the Ravens lose one LB, Bart Scott to the Jets to the tune of 6 yrs @ $48M. Scott gets reunited with Rex Ryan, his former defensive coordinator. The question Ozzie Newsome, the Ravens GM, needs to consider is can he keep Ray Lewis? Their D may be dependent upon it.
-----------------------

Also, the Pats have agreed to terms with Taylor.  He's still got miles left on him.  He will be a nice addition to Maroney.

Offseason splashes!!!!

Six Flags Snyder is bent, bound, and determined to spend the Redskins to a Super Bowl. The Redskins landed Haynesworth aka Sir Stomps Alot. I'm not totally sold on Haynesworth.

It was a contract year, he hasn't played a full season in some time, and he's not that young anymore. Lastly, he had a top notch D line as a Titan. Double teaming him now may be more effective. Who will pick up the slack on the Skins line?

His presence should helped the newly revamped Skins defensive secondary. The Skins are making an effort to compete for that NFC East crown.
-------------------------------------

In other news, the Pioli regime claimed their first Patriot, Mike Vrabel. Not sure how big that will be considering the aging Vrabel. Maybe it's a locker room-related decision. A paradigm shift in mentality.
----------------------------------------------------------

The Vikes have dealt for Sage Rosenfels. The Vikings definitely needed a new quarterback in light of the offense they have. (AD aka Purple Jesus!) Add the fact, that TJ Houshmandzadeh free agent receiver, specifically mentioned this team, and they need to upgrade the quarterback to compete in a relatively weak NFC North.
-----------------------------------------------

Unfortunately for the other teams in the AFC West, Brian Dawkins has agreed to a 2 year deal with the Broncos.

Overpaying for underperformance

What is the deal with DeAngelo Hall? His abilities were highlighted here. Stank-0 is not sold on Hall. AT ALL. Well Six Flags Snyder thinks he is worth 6 years @ $54M. Thirty million over the first three years.

Stank-0 doesn't get it. Hall has not been nice since...*thinkin*... his early days in ATL. He thinks he is an elite corner. He got flamed up by a rook, Eddie Royal, in his first game of his career. Stank-0 would expect the rook to get a few balls off of being amped, but he did up Hall all game long.

Snyder is determined to spend up the money he saved from last offseason. Poor Redskins fans and Stank-0 can think of one in particular right now. To those Skins fans that read this blog...stay away from the ledge. It's not that serious.

Closer to reality

I wrote about Marbury joining the Celtics in January. Well, the Knicks finally cut him loose and he is set to join the Celtics.

I said this earlier.

This is the dumbest move the Celtics could possibly make. Hopeful of signing him? What in the wide world of sports is goin on? A declining point guard who shoots first goin to the champion Celtics?
Several teams that could use Marbury have passed so why should the Celtics take him? It might be cheap but Marbury isn't exactly a safe bet. He hasn't been a sure thing since he was drafted in 96. He has gotten himself dealt from two teams.

What are your thought, readers? Should the Celtics take him.

My thoughts haven't changed at all. The Lakers are that much better after goin through the Finals last year. Couple that with this being an odd year, so that makes the Spurs a very strong candidate to win the title. Which means next year, we can cross the Spurs off the list of title contenders.

So why add a combustible aging point guard to a very good mix? Honestly, I feel like Starbury peaked in PHX or NJ. It's been slowly downhill since then. Sure, he will be onboard because he wants a ring, but how long will the long-term goal take a backseat to playing time or shots?

The question that Ainge needs to ask is, does this make the Celtics substantially better? In my opinion, the answer is no. Let some other team deal with Hurricane Marbury.

Past, present, and future

Today is the anniversary that Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys.  It's kinda surreal that this man released the iconic Landry, dealt Herschel Walker, drafted Aikman, and won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.

That's insane.  Just as insane as no playoff win since 1996.  Sure Jones can be a bit extreme, but who exactly will fire Jones?  He is the owner/GM.  Usually the owner fires the GM.  So..that's out.

In other news, the Bucs are either very smart or very stupid.  They have cut vets, lots of them.

Brooks is an 11-time Pro Bowler and a potential Hall of Famer. Wide receivers Joey GallowayIke Hilliard, halfback Warrick Dunn and linebacker Cato June were also released.

It's kinda crazy.  That's alot of talent, but it is aging so that's understandable.  Stank-0 guesses that the Bucs are completely trying to reconstitute the team to compete in the NASCAR division.

The Chiefs have cleaned house as well

Three oft-injured veterans who hardly played last season were cut loose on Tuesday by the Kansas City Chiefs: linebacker Donnie Edwards, quarterback Damon Huard and cornerback Patrick Surtain.

It needed to be done.  They didn't play at all last season, when the Chiefs went 2-14.  Surtain is gettin old, but Edwards?  Son was nice.  Keep him even if he's injured and restructure his deal.

The Chiefs are startin to acquire cap space.

Cursed!

Remember last year in college football, when everyone had a chance to be #1 and then lost?  About 9 or 10 teams were #1, last year.

Well, that curse has jumped over to college basketball.  UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, UConn, and Pitt (2x) have held the #1 ranking and then fell to lesser competition.

Pitt just re-attained the #1 ranking and re-lost it, to Providence.  These teams are singlehandedly makin Selection Sunday harder by bolstering some team's resumes.

Pitt got the #1 by default because OU lost to UT before they could become the new #1.  The important question is who becomes the new #1?

Cole Alrich & Willie Warren US Presswire

That's exactly where KU is right now, after taking down OU.  Stank-0 is actually NOT happy about this game.  Stank-0 is unhappy because KU did not get OU at full strength.  The young guns need to tighten up on D.  They were gettin wet up from range.

How clutch is Collins?  He was shootin from Tishomingo he was so far out.  Big XII Big Monday games are always good.

The only thing left is to put the deathlock on Mizzou at the Field House.  BEWARE THE PHOG!

Stank-0 would never wish a player to get hurt and hopes that Griff gets better soon.

What's in a uniform

What is it about basketball coaches? They wear suits in a high pressure situation. That doesn't make any sense. Is it because we like to see a suited coach throw their jacket in the air or loosening ties?

Hockey coaches too, but they are in a refrigerated environment so we expect them to keep their cool. They are on a gigantic sheet of ice.

Football coaches wear bubble jackets and some normal apparel you would expect to see at a football game. They rock vests and such.

Baseball managers are actually wearing baseball unis. They look like they might actually play except for the fact that many are in woeful shape.

Why can't basketball coaches dress in a more comfortable fashion? They aren't workin on Wall Street they are trying to get 5 players to play as one.

Heck of a game!

The Caps played host to the Pens.  It was on NBC.  It was a heck of a game.

Ovechkin netted his 43rd goal of the season.  This is turning into quite a rivalry.  There were quite a few times when fisticuffs almost broke out.

After a little push-and-shove, Sidney Crosby was still running his mouth, even as his helmet came off and a linesman tried to push him back toward the bench.

Alex Ovechkin responded with a dismissive, "bye-bye" wave of the left hand, practically taunting the Pittsburgh Penguins star.

That's exactly what the NHL needs a superstar rivalry.  Bird vs. Magic propelled that league Stank-0 doesn't talk about and Ovechkin vs Crosby is poised to propel the NHL.

The Caps have the pieces with AO, Fedorov (who set up AO with his goal), and Semin.

Stank-0 watched the game, including AO's goal.  It was a glorious give-and-go.
