That describes the AL East perfectly. The Yankees and Red Sox are bringin up the rear right now. The Blue Jays and Orioles are at the top. Keep in mind it is still very early. I mean the Royals are above .500 (Sorry Stank-0 I had to do it.) This sounds like diminishing returns to me.
Diminishing returns is represented by a large upside down U shaped graph. At a certain point, you hit a point when you can't extract any more value, wins, potential, etc. from what is being invested. In the case of MLB, that would be cake, cheese, green, chips, fetti, guap, paper, stacks, etc. known to most Americans as money. So maybe the Yanks and BoSox have gotten as much as they can from this big pimpin, free spending habit. The Yanks haven't been to the World Series since....2001? The BoSox lost to a low cost, high value Rays team on their way to the World Series.
